A finance executive who is the final defendant in a case involving husbands with wife-sharing fantasies has denied a charge of rape.
The 44-year-old man, referred to as O, is accused of conspiring with the main perpetrator, known as J, to rape J's wife at his flat between 2010 and 2011. J is said to be the central figure in a group comprising men who met online to discuss their wife-sharing fantasies in private and group chats.
He has admitted drugging his wife and allowing her to be raped by five men, including O. O disputes the events surrounding the rape he is accused of committing and is the only one of the seven men not to plead guilty to the conspiracy charges against him. He does not dispute eight other charges, including posting obscene images on an online sex forum.
The charges are currently suspended. It has emerged that prior to the alleged rape, J's wife had consensual sex with O in September 2010 after contacting him online. Prosecutors claim that without his wife's knowledge, J provided O with her contact details and encouraged him to pursue her. O used the persona of "Brad Chan" to start an online conversation with the woman, and they subsequently met for dinner. O informed J about the meeting. Prosecutors argue that this shows O's involvement was not solely driven by a desire for sex with the victim. On the day of the alleged rape, O met J's wife for lunch and the two then went to a nearby resort hotel, where they had consensual sex. O did not inform J that this had occurred.
The prosecution claims O engaged in sexual relations with J's wife in an attempt to convince her to participate in a threesome with J present. However, the victim refused and stopped communicating with O. According to the prosecution, J will testify that he made his wife unconscious with a sedative and messaged O to inform him that she had been drugged. J alleges that O raped his wife in his presence and will provide further testimony about these events.
The victim will testify that, to her knowledge, O never visited the residence and that she did not consent to the acts in question, according to the prosecution. Digital forensic evidence, including O's forum posts from 2010 to 2019 and his internet search history on drugs and rape, will be presented by the prosecution. The prosecution also claims that Skype communications between O and J discuss their ongoing plans to drug the victim so that O can have sex with her. In these chats, O also suggested that his wife could be raped by J.
The other six men involved in the case, including J, have pleaded guilty to their respective charges. They are currently serving sentences ranging from 3 to 29 years in prison, with four of them receiving an additional punishment of between 20 and 24 strokes of the cane.
