Will the Israel-Palestine conflict spark the nuclear World War (WW) 3? Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that the country was “at war” on Saturday 7th Oct, after Hamas from Gaza fired a deadly barrage of rockets in a major escalation of the long-running conflict between the two sides. Hamas military commander Muhammad Al-Deif called the operation “Al-Aqsa Storm” and said the assault on Israel was a response to attacks on women, the desecration of the Al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem and the seizure of Gaza.

According to the world media report, due to the sudden escalation, people living on either side of the border of the besieged Gaza Strip had already fled their homes and moved to safer locations. Some observers have referred to this latest escalation as the beginning of the “Third Intifada". Intifada is an Arabic word that means to "shake off'. It came into popular usage from December 1987 to 1993, and the 2nd Intifada in 2000-2005 with Palestinians used to describe their uprising against Israeli presence in the West Bank & Gaza.

Afgan native music is influenced by the classical traditions of India, Persia and Pakistan. Dr. Zul (right) joined the Afgan singers and musicians playing the traditional musical instruments tabla and tanbur at Kabul Darbar. Photo: Zarina

This was one of the topics of discussion over lunch between Datin Niki Yusof, widow of Allahyarham (the late) Ambassador Dato' Dr. Yusof Ahmad who was also the former Director General, Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations (IDFR) with my wife, Zarina and I at the Kabul Darbar BBQ Restaurant in Ampang Jaya. We really love the spacing things up and it is nice sharing a part of the Afgan culture with diverse Afgan cuisines using a creative mixture of spices and its traditional tea. The food flavours with its friendly atmosphere and welcoming staff make us feel really at home. We enjoyed listening to the mild and peaceful Afgan music, all in all aiming to make us comfortably outstanding gastronomic experience.

I understand the ingredients for the food are directly imported from Afghanistan which is among the leading producers of nuts and dried fruits in the world. The unique climate of Afghanistan and its fertile soil have created such great conditions for growing excellent food products especially high-quality dried fruits and nuts, that are carefully handpicked to meet the excellent standards to far wider customers in Malaysia and other countries.
