LABUAN: The Labuan Women’s Affairs Association Chief Fauziah Datuk Din commended the Labuan Corporation (LC) for giving an upgraded facelift to the huge roundabout to enhance the island’s attraction, adding that the LC should take advantage of the opportunity to include history-related elements to make the site more meaningful and interesting.
She noted “the design of the facelift shows the name of the island Labuan displayed, on the opposite side of the old historical name of Bandar Victoria should also be shown.
“This would stir nostalgic memories of the island likely to be photographed by visitors as well as it tells a Labuan story.”
She said the inclusion of Bandar Victoria should not be a matter of controversy because it is a historical fact that the capital of Labuan was so named when the island was officially ceded to the British by the Brunei Sultanate on Dec 24, 1846.
