Inclusion of Chinese in State Cabinet hailed

Kota Kinabalu: FCAS said the Sabah Chinese community in Sabah is pleased with the diverse State Cabinet representation and fully support the appointment of two Chinese Ministers in the recent reshuffle.

“This is especially in view of the fact that there were no Chinese Ministers in the previous State Cabinet line-up,” said Federation of Chamber Associations Sabah President Tan Sri TC Goh, referring to the appoinments of Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew and Industrial Development Minister Phoong Jin Zhe.

He said in his speech during the 2023 Chinese New Year celebration organised by FCAS at the Hakka Banquet Hall Tg Lipat.

Also present were Head of State Tun Juhar Mahiruddin, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Mohd Noor, Chinese Consul-General in Kota Kinabalu Huang Shifang, Datuk Christina Liew and Phoong Jin Zhe.

Goh said the present State Government was democratically and legitimately elected by Sabahans through the 2020 State elections and subsequently reached a consensus to fully support the “Unity Government” led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“Hence, it is only appropriate that the concept and spirit of the “Unity Government” are fully adopted by Sabah, in order to promote unity among the people. I sincerely believe this would better suit the aspirations of all Malaysians” he said.

As such, FCAS pledged full allegiance to the Sabah Unity Government as well as its policies to ensure the State’s economic prosperity and stability.

Goh said with greater political stability established through the Unity Government, Sabah is slated for speedy recovery and growth in various sector, post Covid-19 pandemic.

“With the Covid-19 pandemic significantly under control and most nations including Malaysia and China reopening its borders which accelerated global economic recovery, I earnestly hope that with greater political stability, Sabah too could achieve a speedy recovery and growth in various sectors.

“Therefore FCAS fully acknowledges and supports policies as well as measures which ensure stability and continuous growth for Sabah, in line with the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) master plan,” he said.

Meanwhile, Goh extended his gratitude to Hajiji for allocating a total of RM650,000 to FCAS which enabled the association to organise the CNY celebration as well as the Gaya Street CNY Carnival held mid-January.
