Kota Kinabalu: The RM5.7 billion 2024 State Budget tabled by State Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun last Friday indicates that Sabah is on the right track, said Assistant to the Chief Minister Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan.

He said the increase in the budget from RM5.1 billion to RM5.7 billion was a positive sign for Sabah’s economy to improve.

“We expect that if the positive projections for next year can be achieved, it will strengthen the State Government to implement more programmes that benefit the people and also Sabah’s development as a whole,”

Nizam told reporters after launching the “Semarak Esscom @ Tawau” programme at Kg Batu Payung field, here, last Saturday. The programme is the third series after being held in Kalabakan and Semporna several weeks ago.

The Apas Assemblyman said the 2024 Budget was also aligned with theme “Sabah Teguh, Rakyat Terbela”, with endeavours emphasising on three economic sectors, namely tourism, agriculture and industry.

Additionally he said many community programmes geared towards the safeguarding the people’s welfare, such as the construction of Rumah Mesra Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) homes for the underprivileged, will also continue next year.

“We also see the government giving large allocations to scholarships compared to previous years.

“This is definitely aimed at providing quality human capital by giving the children of Sabah the opportunity to advance their studies to a higher level,” he said.
