India’s PM implores Putin to stop ‘endless war’ in Ukraine

  • Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the war in Ukraine during a meeting at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Bishkek.
  • Mr Modi said that humanity is set back every day the conflict continues and said that “we need to move from endless war to an end to the war”.
  • Mr Putin thanked the Indian leader and claimed Russia was moving forward along the path to peace, despite Moscow maintaining that the conflict can only end on its terms.
  • Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced constructive talks with US President Donald Trump's envoys to arrange a forthcoming visit to Kyiv.
  • The diplomatic exchanges occurred as Russian strikes on Ukrainian military and energy infrastructure killed at least nine people in Kyiv and Odesa overnight.
