Indie icons condemn Israel and United States in fiery Coachella protest

  • The Strokes concluded their Coachella set with a politically charged video montage during their performance of “Oblivius”, a song played for the first time in a decade.
  • The video accused the CIA of enforcing regime change through political violence and displayed footage of Israel bombing Gaza and the United States bombing Iran.
  • It also alleged CIA links to the deaths of foreign political figures and the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr., alongside captions highlighting destruction in Iran and Gaza.
  • Frontman Julian Casablancas repeatedly asked, “What side are you standing on?” as the video played, having previously criticised the prospect of a military draft under the Trump administration.
  • This protest follows a similar controversial statement made by Irish band Kneecap at last year's Coachella, which condemned Israel and sparked calls for their US work visas to be revoked.
