KUALA LUMPUR – Aggrieved mother M Indira Gandhi today led a march of over 100 people from several NGOs from the Sogo shopping complex to the Bukit Aman federal police headquarters here, to urge the police to locate her daughter Prasana Diksa.

The group carried placards reading "Where is my child, IGP?", "Prasana has the right to be with her mother", and "IGP, return my child", and chanted "Arrest Riduan", "Return Prasana", and "PDRM, be fair", reported Free Malaysia Today (FMT).

Indira was accompanied by her two older children as she pushed Prasana's old baby stroller with her teddy bear, which she reportedly planned to give to Inspector-General of Police Khalid Ismail at Bukit Aman to signify her love for her daughter.

Yesterday, the Ipoh High Court ordered the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to widen the search for Indira's ex-husband Muhammad Riduan Abdullah nationwide. This after Indira filed an additional affidavit concerning the use of Budi MADANI 95 (BUDI 95) and Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) benefits by Riduan, despite being on the police wanted list.

Riduan, after his conversion to Islam, converted the couple's three children to Islam in 2009 without Indira's consent. He also abducted Prasana when the child was only 11 months old.

He sought custody of the children through the Shariah Court, but on Jan 29, 2018, the Federal Court ruled that the conversions were null and void, and ordered the IGP to arrest Riduan for defying the High Court’s directive to return Prasana.

Also present at the gathering today were deputy law and institutional reform minister M Kulasegaran, former law minister Zaid Ibrahim, former Bar Council president Ambiga Sreenevasan, and social activist Marina Mahathir.

A matter of justice

In his speech before the march, Zaid said the case remains unresolved because the authorities allegedly treated it as a religious despite rather than a family, and custody matter.

“The Shariah court won’t accept the decision of the civil court, and the police won’t enforce the civil court order. This is what has been happening,” he said.

“Create a new system, a new court, to take care of mothers and fathers of different faiths who are separated. This is so that they can fight for custody before an impartial court," Zaid reportedly said.

Kulasegaran, meanwhile, said that the authorities cannot claim that Riduan cannot be located, when records have shown he collects government aid.

"The person who's accused, the fugitive who is on the run, if he can collect Sara or other benefits, the authorities cannot say they cannot locate him.

"I'm sure there are mechanisms. I hope he can be found, immediately arrested, and brought to justice," the New Straits Times quoted him saying before the march.

Marina said the issue was not about religion, but justice.

"We are never thought to be cruel to anyone. Our religion does not teach us to be cruel to anyone. So, anyone who uses religion to be cruel to a person, I think they should be ashamed.

"So, God willing, this case will be resolved soon. I hope one day she (Indira) can meet her (Prasana)." she reportedly said. – November 22, 2025
