
Kota Kinabalu: An undocumented Indonesian woman was fined RM3,000, in default seven months’ jail, by the Magistrate’s Court here for soliciting customers for prostitution.
Endini, 21, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin to committing the offence at about 5pm on July 31 in a room at Sinsuran Complex.
She was charged under Section 372B of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of one year, or a fine, or both upon conviction.
Prosecuting Officer Inspector Yusdi Basri told the court that Endini was offering sexual services and was with a customer when she was arrested.
Marilyn ordered Endini to be referred to the Immigration Department after she paid the fine or served the jail sentence.
In a separate case, a 22-year-old woman was fined RM1,800, in default one month’s jail, for gambling in a public place.
Erma Fatimah Abdullah pleaded guilty to committing the offence at about 12.50pm on July 31 at Lorong Inanam 3, Inanam.
The court heard that Erma had engaged in illegal online gambling at the location.
She was charged under Section 7(2) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953, which carries a fine of up to RM5,000, or up to six months’ jail, or both upon conviction.
The court also ordered RM70 in seized cash to be forfeited to the Government.
