Indonesia intensifies health checks at all entry points as a precaution against the Nipah virus, despite no reported cases within the country.
JAKARTA: Indonesia has intensified health screenings at all national entry points to prevent the potential spread of the Nipah virus.
Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin stated that officers will use special reagents or screening kits at airports, seaports and land borders on all symptomatic individuals entering the country.
“This move is a precautionary measure, although no Nipah virus cases have been reported in Indonesia so far,” he said in a statement.
The Health Ministry has issued a nationwide circular urging all relevant agencies to heighten vigilance.
The directive specifically calls for early detection of travellers from areas with reported Nipah cases who exhibit prolonged fever and cough.
Minister Budi also urged individuals experiencing symptoms after returning from high-risk areas to seek immediate medical attention.
This action is intended to prevent any potential further spread of the virus.
