Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto announces plans to revamp 1,800 railway crossings after a train collision in Bekasi killed 14 and injured 84.

JAKARTA: Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto said on Tuesday that the government plans to revamp around 1,800 railway crossings across the country following a train collision in Bekasi late Monday that killed at least 14 people and injured 84 others, reported Xinhua.

“I have ordered immediate action. We will fix all of them, either by installing guard posts or building flyovers,” Prabowo said after visiting survivors at Bekasi Regional Public Hospital.

The plan includes accelerating the construction of flyovers in Bekasi, which has already been approved.

A commuter train on the Jakarta-Bekasi route was involved in a collision with a long-distance train operating on the Jakarta-Surabaya route at around 8.50 pm local time on Monday.

The search and rescue operation has been completed, with all evacuated victims receiving treatment at nearby hospitals.
