Indonesia’s Hajj Airlift to Saudi Arabia Reaches 96% On-Time Departure Rate

Jakarta - Indonesia’s state-owned airport operator, InJourney Airports, said 126,097 prospective Hajj pilgrims had departed for Saudi Arabia on 322 flights during the period.

The country’s state-owned agency Antara reported on May 10 that, of the 322 Hajj flights handled by InJourney Airports, 310 departed on time. The company said the cumulative on-time performance, or OTP, reached about 96% across the 14 airports serving the 2026 departure phase.

InJourney Airports President Director Mohammad R. Pahlevi said the departure operation had generally run smoothly. “Careful planning, supported by proper implementation, has strongly supported the smooth departure of Hajj flights so that OTP is very high,” he said.

The airlift is part of Indonesia’s 2026 Hajj operation, with Saudi Arabia granting the country a quota of 221,000 pilgrims this year. The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah said in April that the quota consisted of 203,320 regular pilgrims and 17,680 special Hajj pilgrims, according to a separate Antara report in April this year.

The busiest departure point was Juanda Airport in Surabaya, which handled 25,794 pilgrims in 68 flight groups from April 21 to May 9. Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Tangerang followed with 20,031 pilgrims in 47 groups, while Adi Soemarmo Airport in Solo handled 19,002 pilgrims in 53 groups.

Sultan Hasanuddin Airport in Makassar handled 9,808 pilgrims in 25 groups, and Kualanamu Airport in Deli Serdang handled 5,379 pilgrims in 15 groups. InJourney said several pre-boarding checks, including security screening for some pilgrims and baggage, were carried out from Hajj dormitories to reduce airport bottlenecks.

Soekarno-Hatta’s Hajj and Umrah Terminal 2F was also used for the operation. The terminal was inaugurated on May 4 last year and includes a 3,136-square-metre mosque, a 4,158-square-metre waiting area, and a lounge for 2,000 pilgrims.

The departure phase is scheduled to continue until May 21. Pahlevi said InJourney would keep working with Hajj organizers, airlines, AirNav Indonesia, ground handlers, and transport authorities until the final flights leave.
