JAKARTA - Indonesia’s migrant-worker protection ministry says its governance overhaul now includes a joint desk with the National Police for migrant-worker cases.
Minister Mukhtarudin said in a Sept. 8 ministry statement that KP2MI had strengthened cooperation with the Indonesian National Police, or Polri, through the formation of a dedicated desk to handle migrant-worker cases.
The arrangement had been planned earlier. On Jan. 9, 2025, then-minister Abdul Kadir Karding and Police Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo agreed to establish a special desk focused on non-procedural migrant-worker cases and human trafficking. KP2MI now describes the desk as formed.
The ministry is pairing that enforcement mechanism with stronger safeguards before workers leave Indonesia.
Mukhtarudin said prospective workers should receive accurate information about overseas jobs, use legal recruitment channels and have adequate preparation before departure, with the aim of reducing irregular migration and trafficking risks.
Digital recruitment is another part of that effort. On Sept. 7, the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs said its cyber-patrol team, working with the migrant-worker protection agency, had removed 7,908 pieces of content advertising fictitious overseas jobs between January and August 2026.
KP2MI has also directed prospective workers to SISKOP2MI, the government system for registered overseas vacancies and official migration procedures.
Mukhtarudin said the protection effort should begin before workers leave the country.
In a translation from Indonesian, he said: “Going forward, no migrant worker should depart without correct information, valid documents and adequate skills.”
