JAKARTA - Indonesia’s Ministry for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers said on June 30 it is ready to facilitate recruitment of Indonesian health workers for New Brunswick, Canada. Recruitment is planned for November 2026, with placements targeted for the second quarter of 2027.
The ministry said Deputy Minister Christina Aryani discussed the plan with Indonesian Ambassador to Canada Muhsin Syihab in Jakarta. Christina said New Brunswick needs health workers and that Indonesia should prepare candidates who meet Canada’s competency and qualification requirements.
The plan builds on an earlier government-to-government health worker agreement with New Brunswick. In a June 3, 2025 release, Kemen-P2MI said New Brunswick had requested 150 Indonesian health workers for hospitals, nursing roles, senior-care work and other health-sector needs
New Brunswick said in an October 17, 2025 release that its memorandum of understanding with Indonesia was the first formal health-care recruitment partnership between Indonesia and a Canadian jurisdiction. The province said the framework covers trained nurses and personal support workers and includes support for foreign qualification recognition and immigration processes.
Its 2024–2025 Department of Health annual report also said that New Brunswick expanded into three new international recruitment markets: Indonesia, Singapore and Tunisia. The report added that the province negotiated an MOU with the Indonesian government and made more than 350 job offers during international recruitment missions in 2024–2025.
Canada still has unmet demand in health occupations, even after vacancies declined. Statistics Canada said health occupation vacancies fell to 62,700 in the first quarter of 2026, including 17,100 vacancies for registered nurses and registered psychiatric nurses, 13,500 for nurse aides and patient service associates, and 7,500 for licensed practical nurses.
