The Indonesian Ambassador to Malaysia, Datuk Hermono, highlighted that the polling station established at the World Trade Centre (WTC) in Kuala Lumpur for Indonesians participating in the 2024 General Election (Pemilu) on February 14 stands as the largest overseas polling station for Indonesian citizens globally. Emphasizing the significance of this polling station, he emphasized its readiness to accommodate Indonesian voters in Malaysia, ensuring their exercise of voting rights with efficiency.

Reflecting on improvements from previous elections, Hermono noted efforts to minimize ballot paper misuse, drawing from lessons learned in the 2019 election. Addressing concerns about recent allegations regarding ballot paper misuse, an embassy source disclosed that investigations into circulated videos are underway, indicating a commitment to upholding the integrity of the electoral process.

The Indonesian government has established 130 embassies worldwide, all tasked with facilitating the voting process for overseas Indonesians. In Malaysia, six polling stations were inaugurated for the early voting process, catering to registered Indonesian voters across different regions.

The polling station at WTC Kuala Lumpur is particularly significant, accommodating 222,945 voters, while other stations in Johor Bahru, Penang, Kota Kinabalu, Tawau, and Kuching collectively serve thousands more. This concerted effort aims to ensure accessibility and participation among Indonesian voters residing abroad.

Indonesian elections in Malaysia often attract attention due to the substantial number of overseas voters involved. With approximately 47.55% of the total 1.75 million Indonesian overseas voters registered in Malaysia, the country plays a pivotal role in shaping electoral outcomes.

The 2024 General Election in Indonesia will witness participation from approximately 240 million voters, including those residing overseas. Beyond electing the president, vice president, members of the People’s Consultative Assembly, and local legislative representatives, this election underscores the democratic fervor and engagement within the Indonesian populace.

As Indonesians prepare to cast their votes, the establishment of robust polling infrastructure both domestically and abroad underscores the commitment to ensuring a fair and transparent electoral process. Through diligent efforts and continued vigilance against malpractices, the integrity of Indonesia's democratic institutions remains steadfast.
