Can you imagine how you’d feel if you found out that your pet has been cooked? Well, this is the reality that Nizam Nabahan from North Sumatra, Indonesia had to face when he found out that someone in his family had unintentionally fried his RM4,000 pet Arowana fish.

The story begins when Nizam noticed that his favourite pet Arowana of the super red short model type, was missing from its aquarium.

He assumed that the fish had leaped out of its aquarium and immediately started to look for it.

“I was upstairs, doing some work on the ceiling. When I went downstairs, I saw that the aquarium was empty so I told my wife that the fish had escaped but I didn’t know where it was,” Nizam told Kompas.com.

Nizam’s kids had prepared a dish

Not long after, Nizam’s two children who were still in primary school came in with plates of fish.

Lo and behold, laying lifeless on the plastic plate held by Nizam’s son was his missing Arowana fish! The man was too stunned to speak.

“I wanted to be angry, then I remembered something that happened yesterday,” Nizam said.

“The kids actually ate a fried Arowana fish yesterday and mentioned that they want to have it again because it was really good. So I thought, they probably decided to just catch it and cook it themselves today,” Nizam explained.

Nizam then decided to tell his wife and children that the fish cost RM1,400 instead of RM4,000 so that his family would not feel guilty for cooking the fish.

“Actually, there were two other fishes there, but why didn’t they take those?,” said Nizam. “Maybe they meant well, because they only took the small one. But it’s that small one that’s the most expensive,” said Nizam while laughing.

We’re glad Nizam took the incident in stride, but hopefully this never happens to any of you guys!
