LAHAD DATU: A 45-year-old Indonesian man was killed by a crocodile at Sungai Matamba, Thursday.
Rusdi Tambah, a plantation worker, went fishing at the riverbank when it happened.
A State Fire and Rescue Department spokesperson said the department received a distress call at 10.07am and deployed a team to the scene.
“Upon arrival, the crocodile was spotted some 50 metres from the location and the victim was seen inside the crocodile’s mouth.

The victim who was confirmed dead was then handed over to the police for further action and the crocodile was handed over to the Wildlife Department.
The operation ended at 1.10pm.
Meanwhile, in KOTA MARUDU, a man is feared to have been mauled by a crocodile while bathing in a river with his nephew in the Kampung Baru area, Marudu Darat, on Wednesday evening.
Kota Marudu Fire and Rescue Station Chief Assistant Fire Chief Hasbi Hajat said the victim was identified as Razis bin Amat, 35, while his 17-year-old nephew survived the incident.
Hasbi said eight members along with a utility vehicle and a boat were rushed to the scene of the incident as soon as they received an emergency call through MERS999 at 6.07pm.
According to him, the search and rescue operation was organised using an aluminium fire brigade boat and a villager’s boat down the river.
