SINGAPORE, Aug 29 — A 32-year-old Indonesian man is set to be charged today after he was allegedly caught concealing a 19.5cm knife in his sock while passing through a security screening area at Changi Airport’s Terminal 4, The Straits Times reported.

Police said the knife, which had a 12cm blade, was detected by an X-ray machine operated by a security officer at the departure hall yesterday.

The man was escorted to a search room, where officers found the sheathed knife concealed in his right high-cut shoe.

Police said the weapon had been wrapped in several layers of plastic bags and sealed with tape.

The man will be charged with carrying an offensive weapon in a public place, an offence punishable by up to three years in jail and a minimum of six strokes of the cane.
