A man in Indonesia, Firmasyah, sadly passed away from a severe infection caused by an untreated cavity after it was revealed that he had never gone for a dental check-up.

His wife, Amanda Prawiria, shared the story on TikTok and said that even though he was in pain, he only took painkillers to deal with it, as reported by Sinar Harian.

He thought it was a regular toothache

Amanda went on to reveal how initially Firmasyah’s cheek started swelling, and he applied a medicated patch on the area, hoping the pain would go away.

She said he even went to work like normal in the morning but later complained that his neck was swollen, thinking it was just a regular toothache.

“He went to work as usual in the morning but then sent me a picture, saying his neck was swollen. We thought it was just a normal toothache, so he put on a medicated patch,” she said.

Amanda told the doctors about his tooth issue

Firmasyah’s condition got worse as the swelling spread, making it hard for him to eat and even breathe, prompting Amanda to rush him to the emergency room.

Unfortunately, after getting nebulizer treatment, they were sent home without the doctors checking his tooth problem.

His condition kept getting worse, to the point where he could barely eat or sleep.

Later that same day, Amanda took him back to the hospital and told the doctors about his tooth issue, which led to a shocking discovery.

He fell into a coma

Doctors found that the infection from his cavity had already spread to his neck and shoulders.

Further examinations showed that the pus had spread, so they had to rush him to the ICU for emergency surgery.

“The doctor said there was pus, and he needed urgent surgery. They took x-rays of his teeth and lungs, and the results showed that the swelling wasn’t just inflammation but an infection that had spread from the pus to his neck and shoulders,” Amanda explained.

2 days after the surgery, Firmasyah’s condition worsened, requiring him to be sedated. He then fell into a coma before eventually passing away.
