FIFA boss Gianni Infantino invited the president of a Swiss amateur team who lost seven players in the New Year's fire in Crans-Montana to Switzerland's World Cup opener on Saturday.

Infantino, a Swiss citizen, posted a photograph on social media with FC Lutry club president Stéphane Bise at the 1-1 draw with Qatar near San Francisco.

The fire killed 41 people and 115 were injured.

"It is important to take a moment to remember those, including many linked to FC Lutry, who tragically lost their lives," Infantino wrote.

"Football teaches us how to be human and we keep the family, friends, and close ones of everyone affected by the disaster in our thoughts."
