Influencer couple charged with misappropriation of funds

A SOCIAL media influencer couple was today charged at the Shah Alam sessions court with 10 counts of abuse of RM1.52 million in public funds.

Mohd Hazalif - who is popularly known as Alif Teega - and Aisyah Hijanah claimed trial to various allegations involving funds collected for charitable activities.

The couple indicated that they understood the charges and requested to proceed to trial.

They are charged with misappropriating funds meant as donations to purchase dates, copies of the Quran, food packs for the poor in Mecca and Madinah in Saudi Arabia, aid for flood victims, and Hari Raya clothing for orphans.

They allegedly committed the offences at the CIMB Bank and Maybank branches at Seksyen 8 and 9, respectively, in Bandar Baru Bangi from May 11, 2011 to July 2, 2024.

The judge set the bail at RM25,000 with one surety for each. Aisyah was told to surrender her passport but not Hazalif as he had done so previously.

They were also ordered to report to the Putrajaya Malaysian Corruption Corruption Commission (MACC) in the first week of every month.

The court fixed Nov 27 for case mention.

Deputy public prosecutor Farah Yasmin Salleh prosecuted while Hazalif and Aisyah were represented by lawyer Shahrullah Khan.

Last Friday, Hazalif pleaded not guilty to two counts of misappropriation of RM63,605.48 in donations meant for qurban meat as well as iftar meals in Syria, Palestine and Mecca.

The two charges were also framed under Section 403 of the Penal Code. - September 23, 2024
