KUALA LUMPUR: Local influencer Ah Ya has voiced concern on Instagram after learning that his elderly father was arrested for allegedly attempting to smuggle prohibited substances into Malaysia.

Ah Ya, a Sino Kadazan who currently resides in Johor, said he only found out about the arrest two days ago, despite the incident reportedly occurring on July 8 at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).

In a video shared online, he revealed that his father, who is in his 70s, had travelled alone from Sabah to Brazil without informing the family.

Describing his father as a simple and trusting person, Ah Ya said he suspects his father may have been tricked or used by others.

He admitted he remains unsure about the full circumstances and has turned to the public for legal advice on how to support his father.

The video has drawn over 10,000 likes and 300 comments, with many urging him to seek legal counsel and visit his father to better understand the case.
