Info on wildlife, flora and fauna in booklets, posters

Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Parks and 1StopBorneo Wildlife launched nine new Wildlife Booklets and Posters to provide wildlife educational materials to be accessible for the public to learn more about the local flora and fauna.

The six posters published are titled Primates of Sabah, Amazing Turtles of Borneo, Rafflesias of Sabah, Snakes of Tawau Hills Park, Butterflies of Sabah, and Hornbills of Sabah.

Along with that, three booklets launched are Fun Facts Herpetofauna of Borneo, Fun Facts Hornbills of Sabah, and 50 Facts about Sunda Pangolins in Borneo.

According to a statement, the event was successful with 50 invited guests attending the event. It was officiated by Senior Principal Assistant Director Research and Education Division of Sabah Parks Dr Nasrulhakim Maidin, who in his opening remark said the posters and booklets are very important to educate the public especially children.

He said before this, there is no such informative visual materials available, thus he agreed that this kind of content needs to be increased so it will be useful for the future generation.

Apart from that, an exhibition on Hornbills was also held during the event to gain attention from guests to learn more interesting things about hornbills and to be concerned about the threats to the critically endangered species of Hornbills.

The exhibition consists of stunning photographs, a short documentary video and interactive hornbill call audio buttons.

Other than that, there is a presentation by Chun Xing Wong, President of 1StopBorneo Wildlife, on the helmeted hornbills which gained attention from guests who know little about this species. The exhibition was made possible by the support from the German Embassy for the Helmeted Hornbill and the Community Project.
