KUALA LUMPUR – The initial report on the private plane that crashed in Bandar Elmina, Shah Alam last month, is expected to be released sometime in the second week of September.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook expressed his hopes for the report to be presented to the public before Malaysia Day on September 16.

He also said that data recovered by United States authorities from the memory puck in the cockpit voice recorder of the fatal flight is still being analysed.

“We’re still analysing the data. As I’ve promised, the initial report on the crash will be presented 30 days after the incident occurred (on August 17).

“I’m expecting for us to be able to present the report in the second week of September,” Loke said during a press conference at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition, here today.

He added that the Air Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) team now in Florida, US, where the Beechcraft Model 390’s (Premier 1) original equipment manufacturer (OEM) is, will return to Malaysia tomorrow.

On Tuesday, Loke said US experts had retrieved data from the memory puck, which contains voice recordings of the flight's final 30 minutes before its crash in Bandar Elmina.

This came after experts in Singapore were unable to recover the data due to “technological issues and restrictions”.

The tragic crash on August 17 resulted in the deaths of 10 individuals, including two crew members, six passengers, one motorcyclist and a motorcar driver.

The flight crashed two minutes before it was due to land at the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang after its departure from the Langkawi International Airport.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia later said the aircraft did not make any mayday calls prior to the accident. – September 1, 2023
