The National Tech Association of Malaysia, better known as Pikom, has long been a vital voice for the country’s dynamic technology sector.
Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo said such a voice was important as it allowed the government to hear the views, ideas, and challenges faced by the nation’s digital community.

Speaking at the Pikom Digital Excellence Awards in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Gobind stressed that industry input was a crucial component of the government’s policy-making process. However, he highlighted that any initiative must not only benefit the industry but, more importantly, the rakyat.

“Our digital journey is marked by key events, such as the Smart City Expo Kuala Lumpur, SmartGov Malaysia 2025, and Malaysia Digital Xceleration (MDX) Summit, all taking place next week (Sept 17-19) at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. The 3rd CyberDS is scheduled for later this month. These events are part of Malaysia’s journey to becoming an artificial intelligence (AI) nation,” said Gobind.

“The recent launch of the National Cloud Computing Policy underscores our commitment to building a strong, secure, and sovereign digital infrastructure. This policy provides clarity and direction for both local and international players, ensuring Malaysia remains competitive, resilient, and trusted as a regional digital hub.

“So yes, this government has heard your views loud and clear. As such, all the ongoing and upcoming initiatives, programmes, and policies are designed to ensure the industry benefits in a transparent, healthy, and secure environment.

“While we cheer the voices of innovators and leaders in the industry, let us also remember that the rakyat must always stand to benefit. As such, I urge all of you to join forces to ensure no one is left behind in our quest to transform into a digital nation,” he added.

Pikom honoured 52 Malaysian technology players at the gala dinner. Its chairman, Alex Liew, said the awards were also a springboard for local players to compete on the regional and global stages.

“Our winners tonight can expect to be nominated further in prestigious regional and global awards. This is the standard of excellence Pikom wants to showcase to the world,” Liew said.
