In Kuala Pilah, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi underscored the crucial role of by-elections as testing grounds for the Unity Government's coalition dynamics. Addressing the gathering as UMNO President, Zahid highlighted how these electoral contests serve as barometers for assessing the collaborative efforts among diverse political parties working together to secure victories for their candidates, regardless of their party affiliations.

He emphasized the ongoing campaign in Sungai Bakap, where UMNO has extended its support to candidates backed by allied parties. This cooperative approach, Zahid noted, mirrors similar strategies employed in previous by-elections. He commended the concerted efforts of UMNO's machinery from Perlis, Kedah, and North Perak in mobilizing support for candidates not directly aligned with UMNO, demonstrating a spirit of unity and mutual assistance among coalition partners.

Reflecting on past electoral engagements such as the Pelangai by-election in Pahang and contests in Pulai and Simpang Jeram, Johor, Zahid highlighted instances where UMNO's organizational strength was pivotal in collaborating effectively with parties like AMANAH, PKR, and DAP. These collaborations, he noted, exemplified a structured approach to coalition governance, where leaders from diverse political backgrounds came together to support common goals and candidates.

Speaking to over 700 delegates at the UMNO Kuala Pilah Division Meeting, Zahid called for unity and concerted efforts within UMNO to regain a dominant position in national politics. He dismissed concerns that UMNO's longstanding advocacy for Malay and Islamic interests would be compromised under the Unity Government. Zahid pointed to the continued support received in Parliament, even from opposition members such as Anthony Loke and Nga Kor Ming of DAP, during deliberations on critical issues affecting rural and regional development.

Zahid underscored the inclusive nature of governance under the Unity Government, highlighting how decisions and policies garner support across party lines. This cooperative approach, he stressed, underscores a commitment to advancing national interests and fostering unity among Malaysians. He urged UMNO members to unite behind the party's resurgence efforts, reaffirming its unwavering commitment to championing the concerns of the Malay and Islamic communities within the broader coalition framework.
