Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) has confirmed a water leakage caused by a storm that affected several areas at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 yesterday (14 November).
In a statement, MAHB said its engineering, operations, and safety teams have been mobilised to manage the situation.
It added that priority is being given to passenger safety, containment efforts, and protection of electrical systems.
“We are in close communication with airline partners to minimise any operational impact,” the statement said.
MAHB also informed that extreme weather conditions were expected to continue until late evening, and monitoring measures had intensified.
Video of water leakage at KLIA goes viral
Earlier, a 26-second video clip went viral showing water leakage believed to have occurred at the departure hall of KLIA Terminal 1.
The incident apparently occurred after a heavy downpour around 4:30 PM, which caused water to stream down one of the terminal’s structures.
KLIA added that monitoring around the terminal was intensified as thunderstorms and extreme weather continued until 6 PM.
“We will share updates as necessary. Thank you for your patience and understanding,” the statement read.
Netizens took to social media to poke fun at the situation, with some sarcastically commenting that KLIA was “taking inspiration from Changi Airport’s indoor waterfall”, a reference to Singapore’s Jewel Changi Airport.
Others joked about the airport offering “free water features” and suggested renaming the departure hall to “KLIA Rainforest Experience.”
Despite the humour, some users expressed concern over maintenance standards at the country’s main airport, urging authorities to address infrastructure issues promptly.
