Insulting Islam: Woman, boyfriend to be charged tomorrow

PETALING JAYA: A woman who performed a stand-up comedy and her boyfriend are set to be charged in court over her act at a comedy club, which allegedly insulted Islam.

According to a report by Malaysiakini, the police secretariat notified that she would be charged under Section 298A of the Penal Code, while the man would be charged under Section 233 of the Communication and Multimedia Act 1998.

Section 298A deals with the offence of causing disharmony, disunity, enmity, hatred or ill-will.

Section 233 deals with the offence of improper use of network facilities to transmit an obscene communication.

Two days ago, the police detained the woman and were granted a court order to remand her for investigation until July 12.

Police have also subsequently detained her boyfriend to facilitate the investigation.
