Government Degree College (GDC), Salooni, in collaboration with Global Forum for Sustainable Rural Development (GFSRD) will organise an international virtual symposium on June 5 to mark World Environment Day from 4 pm to 6 pm.

The symposium aims to raise awareness about environmental conservation, sustainable development, climate resilience and inclusive approaches to addressing ecological challenges, particularly in the Himalayan region. The event is being organised under the aegis of Dr Mohinder Slariya, Principal of the college and global head of GFSRD-Centre for Inclusive Development.

The symposium will bring together academicians, researchers, students, policymakers, environmental experts, civil society representatives and community stakeholders from India and abroad to discuss pressing environmental concerns and explore sustainable solutions.

Key themes of discussion will include climate change and Himalayan ecology, sustainable development in mountain regions, indigenous knowledge systems, water resource management, disaster resilience, eco-tourism, environmental education, youth participation, sustainable agriculture and the role of civil society in environmental protection.

The symposium will feature eminent speakers from national and international institutions. Dr Jai Shree, convener of the programme, said the symposium would provide an inclusive platform for interdisciplinary dialogue and collective action towards environmental sustainability. Dinesh Kumar, organising secretary coordinator, urged students, researchers and environmental enthusiasts to actively participate in the event.
