- Foster-Smith is alleged to have beaten Ms Villalba to death on 18 June, placed her body in a suitcase, and then fled the scene.
- He reportedly contacted The Sun newspaper before his arrest, claiming he was watching an England football match at the time of the alleged crime.
- Authorities, including Dorset Police, assisted in locating him via phone calls he made to the newspaper, leading to his apprehension at Quito International Airport.
- His arrest followed an Interpol Red Notice and an arrest warrant issued by Colombian prosecutors, with the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office providing support.
