KOTA KINABALU: The Interport Balikpapan Project is expected to strengthen Indonesia’s economy and trade networks by enhancing Kalimantan’s port infrastructure as a key logistics hub for the country.
The expansion will improve transportation of goods and connections with other regions of Indonesia and international markets.
Launched in 2020 as part of the Indonesian government’s port modernisation initiative, the project recently welcomed Sarens, a global leader in heavy lifting and crane rental services.
The company has begun installation of a new deodorizer unit weighing over 103 tons on behalf of Pt. BKMU Tripartita Interport.
The deodoriser will improve air quality in and around the port area by reducing odours and ensuring compliance with local environmental regulations.
For this installation, Sarens transported a CC2500 crane unit by barge from Cilegon on Java Island.
This crane will work in tandem with an LR1250 crane provided by PT.Interport, which will handle tailing operations.
Together, the cranes will lift weights exceeding 103 tons to a height of 60 meters with a 22-meter radius.
Sarens has deployed a team of 10 personnel for the project, including operators, riggers and assistants, plus two additional workers focused on operational safety.
“The agility with which Sarens can move any crane from its international fleet to the project location and the ability to choose precisely the right machinery to suit our customers’ needs has been key in this case,” said Country Manager for Sarens in Indonesia Isa Syarif.
“We are extremely committed to the development schedule for this project, so we are very pleased that we were able to deliver our CC2500 crane on time and ensure our customer’s satisfaction,” Isa added.
With over 60 years of international experience, Sarens has recently contributed to other important Indonesian projects, including the expansion of Krakatau International Port and maintenance of the Asahimas Chemical plant in Cilegon.
The company was also recently commissioned by PTSC M&C to handle the load out of an LQUP jacket weighing more than 4,500 tons in Vietnam for oil and gas extraction in the Bay of Bengal.
