PUTRAJAYA: Police are investigating if the recent attacks on the Ulu Tiram and Dato Keramat police stations as well as the failed attempt by two men to trespass on Istana Negara grounds were random incidents or coordinated.
Home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said police are also probing if the death threat to DAP’s Seputeh MP Teresa Kok is linked to these incidents.
“It is important to establish whether the recent incidents were random or part of a coordinated plan, and whether they were orchestrated by an individual or a group.
“Give the cops the space (to investigate). We view these incidents very seriously and immediately launched investigations,” he said at a press conference here today.

Police initially believed that the suspect was a member of Jemaah Islamiyah, but Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain later said further investigations found that he had no ties with the Southeast Asian extremist group.
The same day, police arrested two men who attempted to trespass into Istana Negara, finding a parang in their car.
The following day, Kok received a death threat in the mail along with two bullets. Police are investigating her case under Section 507 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation by anonymous communication.
Police then arrested a man yesterday for trying to attack a policeman and snatch the cop’s submachine gun at the Dato Keramat police station in Penang.
The 35-year-old local was believed to have been under the influence of alcohol.
Saifuddin urged the public against speculating or posting their opinions on the incidents on social media.
