Investigation ongoing into attack on Rafizi Ramli’s son - police

OVER a month after the disturbing syringe attack on the 12-year-old son of former economy minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli, police have confirmed that investigations are still ongoing.

Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said today that while closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage had been obtained from the scene, it had thus far failed to yield a conclusive breakthrough.

“We have identified a few individuals from the CCTV footage, but the footage isn't very clear and the identities cannot be ascertained,” New Straits Times cited him telling reporters on Wednesday.

The incident occurred on 13 August at a shopping mall in Putrajaya, where Rafizi’s son was reportedly assaulted and injected with a syringe by an unidentified assailant.

The police chief added that authorities were still awaiting results from hospital analyses on the contents of the syringe used in the attack.

Rafizi had earlier claimed that two men on a motorcycle had been following his wife’s vehicle prior to the assault, further heightening concerns about the safety and potential targeting of political families.

The case has sparked public concern and calls for improved surveillance and child protection measures in public spaces. - September 17, 2025
