POLICE in Pahang have completed their investigation into a Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) student suspected of insulting Islam, with the case file now submitted to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for further instructions.
Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman said the suspect remains in remand while authorities await a decision on the next course of action.
“So, we are waiting for further instructions,” he told reporters after attending the Royal Malaysia Police Pahang contingent’s breaking of fast event at the Kuantan District Police Headquarters last night.
The student is enrolled at Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah, and the case has drawn attention beyond the state. According to Yahaya, as of last night, police had received 28 reports from across the country in connection with the matter.
“I urge the public to wait for further action.
“The police will take appropriate action in this case,” he said, adding that the suspect had cooperated fully throughout the investigation.
Authorities have not disclosed further details of the alleged offence pending prosecutorial review. - February 28, 2026
