As a management educator, I am delightful to know that my best friend, Professor Naqi Azam, who is an alumnus of the Asian Institute of Management (AIM) Manila, and currently serving as a Senior Advisor to the Vice Chancellor of DHA Suffa University Karachi, shared his experience as a former Global Vice President of Citi Bank International, to talk on "Investment in the Stock Market; Understanding Opportunities, Risks & Responsible Investment". He was invited by Skill House (Education for Financial Freedom) Baltistan, Skardu, Northern Pakistan for a speaking engagement with 50 entrepreneurs. The event was specially designed for beginners to seasoned investors who want to build financial literacy & make informed decisions for a better future.

I heard the video recording that Naqi said, “When the company grows and makes a profit, your investment can grow through share price increases (capital gains) and cash payments (dividends). Investing in the stock market in Pakistan centers around the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), where publicly listed companies trade. Entire ecosystem is strictly regulated by the Securities & Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) to safeguard individual investors. To accommodate different needs, the PSX offers 2 primary account structures: Sahulat Account: A simplified beginner-friendly trading account tailored for retail investors, housewives, or students. Whereas, Standard Trading Account is a comprehensive structured account with zero trading amount ceilings.” (https://www.pax.com.pk)

In fielding questions, Naqi revealed “Yes, the stock market is generally a good long-term investment for growing wealth and beating inflation. Historically, stocks outperform cash savings & bonds over long periods. Reinvesting your gains & dividends lets your money grow faster over time. Stocks values tend to rise faster than the cost of everyday goods. Risks to consider: stock prices go up & down ever day. You can lose money if you sell during a market drop.”
