THE State Government greatly values the continued support from all Chinese community associations and chambers of commerce in the State.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said with the strong and ongoing support from all parties, including the chambers of commerce, the State Government is now on the right track in driving development under the Hala Tuju Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) Development Plan.

“We deeply appreciate the willingness of the Chinese community, including the Federation of Sabah United Chinese Chambers of Commerce (SUCCC), which continues to stand alongside the Government in assisting with every sector of development in the State,” he said at the SUCCC Committee swearing-in ceremony for the 2024-2027 term at Sabah Hakka Hall in Kota Kinabalu on Sept 30.

His speech was delivered by Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship Minister Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe.

Sabah’s record revenue of RM7 billion last year made the State one of the six largest contributors to Malaysia’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2023.

He further mentioned that many job opportunities have been created for Sabah’s youths due to domestic and foreign investors, leading to the Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park (KKIP) and the Sipitang Oil and Gas Industrial Park (Sogip) reaching full capacity.

He said the State Government has now identified a new industrial park in Kudat to meet the State’s industrial sector needs.

“The opening of more industrial parks will certainly see investment values continue to rise in the coming years as more local and foreign investors have shown interest in investing in Sabah.

“Therefore, I want the Chinese community in the State to continue working with the Government to advance the State, as many of them have proven to be highly skilled and intelligent in business matters,” he said.

Hajiji said the State Government would also continue to enhance investment opportunities that could benefit various development sectors in Sabah.

“This is where the role of the Chinese community comes in, to seize opportunities in the State’s development sector,” he said.

He hopes SUCCC will continue to support and cooperate fully with the Government to ensure the success of the Hala Tuju SMJ roadmap for the progress and prosperity of all layers of Sabah’s population.

According to him, SUCCC plays a vital role as a bridge between the Government and the business community, disseminating policies and information related to trade and industry, and conveying the people’s voice to the government.

He is confident that SUCCC, with its 25 members of the Chinese Chambers of Commerce across Sabah and Labuan, will be a valuable resource for the Government to strengthen its close relations with the Chinese business community in Sabah.

Hajiji believes that under Datuk Michael Lui’s leadership as President, SUCCC will continue to provide opinions, views and suggestions from the Chinese business community in Sabah on local socio-economic development issues.

Meanwhile, Lui reaffirmed SUCCC’s unwavering support for the Federal and State Governments.

“We have always worked closely with the Government to strengthen our community’s commitment to Sabah and Malaysia,” he said.

He also called for the Government to continue formulating inclusive and responsive development strategies that benefit all citizens.

Looking to the future, Lui outlined the need for SUCCC to strengthen its internal unity and resilience.

“For the long-term and sustainable development of SUCCC, we must work diligently in all areas to make our organisation stronger and more united as we move forward,” he said.

He said the four fundamental principles of Chinese business culture – integrity, loyalty, gratitude and innovation – would remain SUCCC’s guiding values.
