Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) has amended its PhD regulations, bringing greater flexibility for research scholars and faculty members. The changes were notified in the Delhi Gazette through revised Ordinance 12 governing PhD programmes.

A key amendment relates to the PhD Entrance Test (PET). Earlier, the university conducted the test once in an academic year. Under the revised rules, the PET will now be held twice a year, giving students more opportunities to secure admission to doctoral programmes.

The amendments were approved by the Board of Management at its 90th meeting on March 3, 2026, and took effect from the same date.

The university has also revised norms for faculty members nearing retirement. Under the amended rules, faculty members with less than three years of service left before superannuation cannot take new research scholars under their supervision. However, they may continue to guide already registered PhD scholars till retirement and can serve as co-supervisors after retirement up to the age of 70.

The notification said the amendments aimed to streamline the PhD admission and supervision process while ensuring academic continuity and wider opportunities for research scholars.
