iPhone Duo could be in short supply as preorders go live – here’s how to secure one

It’s been a busy few weeks for Apple. Last month, the tech giant launched the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, Apple Watch Series 12 and some new AirPods. Then earlier this week, it unveiled a host of new products for the home, including a rival to the Amazon Echo Show in the form of the HomeView. But, at long last, Apple’s first foldable phone is almost upon us.

Tomorrow, pre-orders for the all-new iPhone Duo go live, and according to industry insiders, it could be in short supply. Over the weekend, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported that, ahead of the Apple event last month, it had been considering moving the release date to November due to production constraints. While he says production hiccups have been resolved for launch day, stock is still expected to be limited.

If you’re dead set on getting your hands on the iPhone Duo on launch day, your best bet is to pre-order the handset ahead of its release on Friday 23 October. Thankfully, there’s a way to increase your chances of securing one. Here’s everything you need to know about pre-ordering the iPhone Duo.

When can you pre-order the iPhone Duo in the UK?

The iPhone Duo will be available to pre-order from 1pm on Friday 16 October in the UK. With supply predicted to be limited and demand expected to be high, there’s one way to make the pre-order process go a little more smoothly.

As with most iPhone launches, you can pre-configure your order ahead of pre-orders going live tomorrow. You can pick your preferred colour and storage capacity, add any trade-in details, Apple Care coverage and your payment details, so when the clock strikes 1pm on Friday, all you’ll need to do is complete your purchase.

It won’t guarantee you an iPhone Duo on launch day, but it could help you skate on down to the checkout, passing other customers by as they decide between black and white and 256GB and 512GB.

iPhone Duo: Price

Apple’s first foldable iPhone doesn’t come cheap. The iPhone Duo costs £1,999 for the 256GB model, which is £700 more than the iPhone 18 Pro Max and £800 more than the iPhone 18 Pro.

  • iPhone Duo 256GB: £1,999
  • iPhone Duo 512GB: £2,199
  • iPhone Duo 1TB: £2,599
  • iPhone Duo 2TB: £3,199

While that sounds like a lot, it’s roughly the same price as other foldable phones. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra starts at £1,899, for example.

What iPhone Duo pre-order deals can we expect to see?

You won’t be able to find any deals on the iPhone Duo out right – the best way to get a saving is by trading in your current smartphone. That said, carriers will be launching pre-order deals that bundle the iPhone Duo with data packages and carrier perks, including discounts on your monthly payment or boosted trade-in values.

And while it’s a little tricky to predict the kind of deals we’ll see on pre-order day, given Apple’s never released a foldable we can compare previous deals to, we can look at other similarly priced foldables, such as the £1,799 Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, for an idea of what to expect.

The cheapest deal for the Z Fold 8 could be found at Sky Mobile, which was offering the handset from £52 per month with 1GB of data. EE was selling the Z Fold 8 for £49.83 per month with 25GB of data on a 48-month contract. Given the iPhone Duo costs a similar amount, I’m predicting monthly prices to be around the same £50 mark when pre-orders go live tomorrow.

In any case, I’ll be here rounding up the best iPhone Duo pre-order deals tomorrow afternoon, so stay tuned.
