IPT student hides in closet in female friend's room to avoid being caught

TWO higher education institution (IPT) students used the excuse of wanting to complete university assignments together when they were caught by religious enforcement officers at a house in Taman Tasik Utama, Ayer Keroh, yesterday morning.

The operation at around 9 am was carried out by a team of religious enforcement officers from the Malacca Islamic Religious Department (JAIM) in collaboration with the police after receiving a complaint.

 JAIM Director, Datuk Md Azhan Samat said that the inspection found a man and a girl, both 21 years old, in the house rented by the female student. “The male student was found hiding in a cupboard, while his female acquaintance was found wearing a scarf.

“A check found that both of them were private IPT students, still single and not in a legal relationship as husband and wife,” he said, as reported.

Following that, the couple involved were taken to the JAIM office to assist in the investigation under Section 53 of the Syariah Offences Enactment (State of Melaka) 1991.

If convicted, they can be fined not more than RM3,000 or imprisoned for a period not more than two years or both. – June 12, 2026
