The Higher Education Ministry (MOHE) allows higher learning institutions (IPTs) flexibility to adjust teaching modes when the Air Pollutant Index exceeds 201.

PUTRAJAYA: Higher education institutions (IPTs) in areas recording Air Pollutant Index (API) readings above 201 have been given the flexibility to determine suitable teaching and learning (PdP) modes to reduce health risks while ensuring students’ education continues

In a statement today, the Higher Education Ministry (MOHE) said it was closely monitoring air quality and had directed all institutions under its purview to monitor API readings in their respective areas.

Outdoor activities should also be assessed and adjusted according to the latest readings.

The ministry advised IPT communities to refer to official information from the Department of Environment (DOE) and follow the guidelines issued by their respective institutions.

“MOHE will continue to monitor the situation and adjust the operations of IPTs to safeguard the health, well-being and welfare of all its members,” it said.

Bernama reported that 35 areas recorded unhealthy API readings as of 10 am today.

According to the DOE’s Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) portal, Batu Pahat, Johor, and Johan Setia, Selangor recorded the highest readings at 190 each, followed by Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, and Nilai, Negeri Sembilan, at 189 each, and Putrajaya at 187.

API readings of zero to 50 indicate good air quality, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, and above 300 hazardous.
