IRAN has consented to a United Nations appeal to guarantee the safe and expedited passage of vessels carrying humanitarian supplies through the strategically critical Strait of Hormuz, according to Iran’s ambassador and permanent representative to the UN Office in Geneva, Ali Bahraini, as reported by Mehr News Agency (MNA).
“In line with its longstanding principles of humanitarian law and in response to the request from the United Nations, Iran has decided to facilitate and further expedite the safe passage of ships carrying humanitarian goods through the Strait of Hormuz,” Bahraini said, underscoring Tehran’s commitment to supporting international relief efforts.
He further highlighted that the decision aims to ensure that essential aid reaches populations in need without obstruction.
“This decision reflects Iran’s continued commitment to supporting humanitarian efforts and ensuring that those in need have unimpeded access to essential aid,” Bahraini added.
Operational arrangements to implement the measure will be coordinated with the United Nations and finalised in due course, he said, stressing the importance of collaboration to maintain safe and efficient transit through the busy maritime corridor. - March 29, 2026
