IRAN’S Supreme National Security Council announced on Wednesday that its military has achieved what it describes as a “historic” victory in the ongoing war with the United States, asserting that Washington has accepted the framework of a ten-point proposal ahead of planned diplomatic talks.
AFP cited today that the council’s statement outlined that the ten-point framework includes guarantees of non-aggression, continued Iranian control over the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, sanctions relief, withdrawal of US forces from the region, and reparations.
The council emphasised that the negotiations, scheduled to begin on Friday in Islamabad, Pakistan, are intended to finalise the details of the agreement but “do not mean the end of the war.”
“After forty days of war, our forces have achieved almost complete success, pushing the enemy into a situation described by Tehran as a historic defeat,” the council said, underscoring Tehran’s position of strength.
The announcement follows a statement by United States President Donald Trump, who on Tuesday declared a temporary suspension of military operations against Iran for two weeks to facilitate diplomacy.
Trump described the pause as a “double sided ceasefire” contingent upon Iran reopening the Strait of Hormuz fully, immediately, and safely.
He also confirmed that the ten-point proposal from Iran provides “a workable basis” for discussions, though he did not disclose the full content of the framework.
The developments came just hours before the expiry of a deadline set by Trump for a major military strike, with Tehran’s agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz temporarily averting imminent confrontation.
