Iran’s naval commander says all vessels must now coordinate with its authorities to transit the vital Strait of Hormuz, ordering one ship to retreat.
TEHRAN: Iran’s chief commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy has declared that all vessels must now coordinate with Iranian authorities to transit the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
Rear Admiral Alireza Tangsiri stated that the passage of any ship requires full coordination with the country’s maritime authorities.
He cited the case of the container ship SELEN, which was ordered to retreat after failing to comply with legal protocols.
Tangsiri said the vessel lacked the necessary permit to pass through the strait.
All maritime traffic through the vital waterway must now occur in coordination with Iran’s naval authorities.
The strait is a crucial chokepoint for global oil shipments, with about a fifth of the world’s oil passing through it.
