Iran’s 2026 World Cup group stage campaign came to an end on June 26 with a meeting against Egypt.

The Iranians’ stint in North America has been marred by travel issues, including only being allowed into the United States within 24 hours of kick-off of some of their group matches.

However, they were still able to secure three points from three games, and they have now left another message in their dressing room after their draw with Egypt.

Iran leave a note after drawing with Egypt in Seattle

Iran previously left a dressing room message after they faced New Zealand earlier this month, in which they thanked Los Angeles for their hospitality and mentioned that ‘the spirit of Iran remains alive and steadfast’.

Now, journalist James Ducker has shared a photo of the latest message left by the Iranian national team after their clash in Seattle this week.

It reads: “We come from Iran… from a land that, for thousands of years, has placed honour above victory.

“For us, football is not only a competition for results, it is a test of character.

“Perhaps points can be won in many ways, but respect cannot.

“Perhaps a team can advance from a group, but only through fairness and honour can one stand tall before history.

“Fair play is not just a line in football rules, it is the soul of the game.

“Thank you Seattle for your hospitality, and thank you to all Iranians… who gave their hearts, their voices, and their whole being for Iran.

“Iran, always standing tall.”

After finishing third in their World Cup group, it remains to be seen if Iran have done enough to qualify for the Round of 32.

They are currently the sixth-best third-place team at the tournament, but Algeria, DR Congo and Croatia all still have the chance to overtake them if they win their remaining ties.

If they do qualify for the knockout phase, Iran are currently on course for a Round of 32 match against Switzerland on July 2.
