Iranian media reports increased oil exports from Kharg Island terminal despite ongoing conflict and US threats to destroy the vital facility.
TEHRAN: Iran’s oil exports from the key Kharg Island terminal have increased despite the ongoing war with the United States and Israel, Iranian media reported.
Moussa Ahmadi, head of the Iranian parliament’s energy commission, stated that exports had risen following recent visits and meetings on the island.
“Following the visits carried out and meetings held on Kharg island, I must say that in recent days not only have oil exports not decreased, but they have increased,” ISNA news agency quoted him as saying.
Kharg Island is a vital oil export terminal located off Iran’s western coast.
The increase comes despite recent US military action and direct threats from President Donald Trump.
Trump has threatened to destroy the island if a deal to end the war is not reached soon and the Strait of Hormuz does not reopen immediately.
The US confirmed it bombed military targets on Kharg Island on March 13 but refrained from hitting oil infrastructure.
Iranian officials have recently warned that the United States may be planning a ground attack targeting one of Iran’s islands.
These warnings coincided with the arrival of the USS Tripoli, an amphibious assault ship carrying around 3,500 Marines and sailors, in the Middle East last week.
