Iran’s new supreme leader is ‘engaging’ with US talks, Marco Rubio says

  • US Secretary of State Marco Rubio says there are indications that Iran’s new supreme leader is engaging in talks to end the war “at some level.”
  • Rubio was asked Tuesday at a Congressional hearing whether he’s confident that the supreme leader is still alive.
  • “There’s indications,” Rubio said. “We have not heard from him publicly, we haven’t seen him publicly. ... There are indications out there that he’s increasingly engaging.”
  • Rubio also admitted that Iran still has “a lot of drones” as he was grilled by Congress members. He said that the US remains in discussions with Iran on coming to an agreement about the ongoing conflict.
  • He said that Iran has agreed to negotiate aspects of its nuclear program that they previously refused to mention in discussions.
