Iran's chief negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi have left Switzerland following 18 hours of intensive talks with US representatives, the Iranian news agency Tasnim reported on Monday morning.

On Sunday, representatives from the United States, Iran and mediators Pakistan and Qatar met at a luxury mountain resort near Lucerne for talks aimed at reaching a lasting peace deal to end the war that began at the end of February.

In a statement on Monday, the mediators said negotiations would continue in smaller working groups later in the week.

A report about the departure of Iran's top negotiators also stated that the talks would continue this week and that a plan had been agreed for the next 60 days.

Last week, the US and Iran reached a memorandum of understanding aimed at achieving a comprehensive agreement to end the war within 60 days.
