Iran doubts that Israel would be able to carry out its attacks against the Islamic State without coordinating with Washington, Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghai said on Monday.
No one believes that Israel could carry out such attacks without coordination with the US administration, he said, adding that this further fuels Tehran's distrust with Washington.
Iran fired rockets at Israel on Sunday evening and Israel retaliated with airstrikes against Iran on Monday, in what were the first mutual attacks since a ceasefire negotiated between Iran and the US took effect in April.
US President Donald Trump called for Iran and Israel to "immediately" halt the fighting in a post on his Truth Social network published on Monday.
"Israel and Iran must immediately stop 'shooting.' President DONALD J. TRUMP," read the post. He did not comment on whether Israel's retaliation had been coordinated with Washington. Israel and the United States launched the war against Iran on February 28.
Messages had been exchanged between Washington and Tehran until the new attacks, Baghai said. He did not confirm whether contacts were continuing.
Despite the ceasefire and contacts between the countries, there have repeatedly been attacks in recent weeks between Iranian forces and the US.
