Iran’s Revolutionary Guards claim missile strikes hit the Israeli PM’s office and air force commander’s residence in a major escalation.
TEHRAN: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed responsibility for missile strikes targeting the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the residence of Israeli Air Force Commander Tomer Bar.
In a statement published on its official Sepah News outlet, the IRGC described the attacks as “targeted and surprise” operations carried out using domestically produced Kheibar ballistic missiles.
The Kheibar missile, which was unveiled and test-launched in May 2023, possesses a range of 2,000 kilometres and can carry a warhead weighing up to 1,500 kilogrammes.
The IRGC added that Netanyahu’s fate remains unknown following the strikes, promising to provide further details at a later time.
This major escalation comes in direct response to joint United States and Israeli airstrikes on Tehran and other Iranian cities on Saturday morning.
Those earlier airstrikes resulted in the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, along with several of his family members, senior military commanders and civilians.
Iran had previously responded to that attack with several waves of missile and drone strikes targeting Israel and US bases across the Middle East.
