Iran is continuing to review a US negotiation proposal and has not yet responded, a government spokesman said on Thursday.

Foreign ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei told state news agency IRNA that Tehran would communicate its position to Washington via Pakistan, which is acting as a mediator, once internal consultations are complete.

The White House is currently awaiting Iran’s response to its 14-point memorandum of understanding, which aims at establishing a framework for an initial 30-day round of talks to end the conflict.

The proposal is said to include potential easing of U.S. sanctions, arrangements concerning the future of the Strait of Hormuz, and a basis for renewed nuclear negotiations.

President Donald Trump expressed optimism on Wednesday that a deal could be reached soon, but warned that if no agreement is struck, the United States would have to resume major military action against Iran.
